European Activism: The Medical Cannabis Bike Tour

It has been described as “activism with a twist,” “a great adventure” and “a sporting triumph.”  The Medical Cannabis Bike Tour is a non-profit organization riding to change the way marijuana is perceived in Europe. In November,  it handed over 100,000 Euros to fund a groundbreaking clinical study into the use of cannabinoids (THC and CBD) in the treatment of brain cancer (glioma) patients. Scheduled to begin in mid-2015, these medical trials involving 30-40 patients will be conducted in a handful of Spanish hospitals. Not bad for a bike ride that began in 2012 with only two participants! Started by…

Utah’s ‘Right to Try’ Law Could Give Patients Medical Access to Investigational Treatments

Should Utah citizens with terminal illnesses be legally allowed to try different drugs or medications? At least one representative believes so and has introduced a new bill, the “Right to Try Life-Saving Treatments” act (HB94, sponsored by Representative Gage Froerer). Representative Froerer is the sponsor of last year’s high CBD, low THC bill (HB105, aka Charlee’s law), a law designed to allow access to a “hemp oil extract” via the Stanley Brothers in Colorado. The bill would allow patients to “obtain an investigational drug (or device) through an agreement with the investigational drug (or device) manufacturer and the eligible patients physician.”…

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper Changes Stance on Cannabis, Says Legalization Can Work

To say that Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has been less than enthusiastic about presiding over the legalization of recreational cannabis in his state would be quite an understatement. During campaign season last fall,he called legalization “reckless.” Of course, that opinion hadn’t stopped him from courting  funding from NORML for his re-election. His inability to take a firm, positive stance on something with a broad base of support in his state has been frustrating for cannabis activists, in Colorado and elsewhere. In a pleasant turn of events, it looks like Hickenlooper may have finally come around on the issue of marijuana legalization. On…

Joey’s Strain: Cannabis Created for Symptoms Related to Autism

The medical benefits of cannabis in children suffering from autism-related symptoms have long been speculated about, but only recently, with new laws being passed, have we truly been able to see results. In an article published in Autism Research Review International, Doctor Bernard Rimland, founder of the Autism Society of America (ASA), claimed that “evidence suggests that in such cases, medical cannabis may be a beneficial treatment” for persons in the autism spectrum. In 2009, Mieko Hester-Perez the pioneer of this unconventional treatment initially opened the doors with her groundbreakingresearch on her first public interview on Good Morning America. Missouri Marijuana Activists to Refile Legalization Petition After Elections Office Rejects It

The Missouri marijuana-legalization activists who filed an initiative petition to get legal weed on the 2016 ballot are re-filing their paperwork after the secretary of state’s office rejected it for minor form issues. So if you were looking to comment on or sign the petition, you’ll have to wait a little longer. Before a new ballot initiative is approved by the secretary of state’s office, the attorney general takes a look-see to make sure the language conforms to legal style, which can be tricky. After KC NORML submitted its proposal to regulate marijuana like food — meaning no age restrictions,…
