Harry’s World: Buds And Ripeness

Ripeness in cannabis is a topic not often discussed, yet it is one of the most important aspects of a grow. What does ripe actually mean? It is the stage of growth or development that indicates it is ready for reaping or harvesting. It’s easy to tell when fruit is ripe, but what about when it comes to cannabis? Like all fruit, cannabis buds too goes through several stages of ripeness. This is mostly dictated through several indicators: color in the THC heads or glands, color of the leaves and sometimes colors of the hairs on the bud itself. The…

Chuck Ream Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Michigan

The rain moved in at 5:30 p.m., washing out our Medical Cannabis Cup Awards ceremony in Clio, MI yesterday. But we didn’t want to leave until we honored Charles “Chuck” Ream with the HIGH TIMES Lester Grinspoon Lifetime Schievement Award Ask anyone in Michigan who the most revered Michigan activist is and they’ll answer without a hitch: “Chuck Ream.” Chuck is a tireless advocate for cannabis, exhibiting more energy and enthusiasm for the cause than activists a third his age. Born in Three Rivers, MI in 1946, he was a child who read books, played sports and grew plants. He…

Therapeutic Hemp CBD Bill Introduced in Congress

The most amazing political story in marijuana this year is the rapid acceptance of political and cultural conservatives to accept the medical utility of cannabis… as long as it doesn’t get you high. These so-called CBD-Only bills in just the past six months have passed in eleven states, mostly in the religiously-conservative areas of the country like the South and Utah. Now, a conservative Republican from Pennsylvania, Rep. Scott Perry, has introduced the “Charlotte’s Web Medical Hemp Act of 2014,” named after the Charlotte’s Web strain of low-THC, high-CBD cannabis grown by the Realm of Caring in Colorado. The bill,…

Is Hawaii Gearing up for a Green Rush?

Recently, both Oregon and Alaska activists announced that citizens in their respective states will be voting on full adult recreational cannabis legalization ballot initiatives this fall. It looks like another, much more tropical destination in the United States is considering the impact that cannabis legalization could have on the state. That’s right, Ladybud readers,Hawaii could soon be your new wake and bake vacation destination. Although legalization has been an uphill battle within the state, many are increasingly optimistic that changes are coming soon. People have already picked apart previous failures at revising the state’s law, citing the influence of state law enforcement at the legislative level,…

Philadelphia: Decriminalization Measure Awaits Mayor’s Signature

The Philadelphia City Council passed bill 140377 with a vote of 13-3 in June 2014. The measure, sponsored by Councilman James Kenney, offers a pragmatic solution to unburdening the city government and our residents from arrests for small amounts of marijuana. There are more than 4,000 adults arrested each year in our city simply for having a small amount of cannabis. Philadelphia stands alone in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by requiring a custodial arrest for each offender while other counties issue summons or even summary violations for disorderly persons. The new policy approved overwhelmingly by City Council is by no…

Little Girl with Dravet Syndrome Dies While Waiting for Cannabis

Her mother, Wendy Conte, was a part of the movement to pass the New York State medical marijuana law, also called The Compassionate Care act. The Contes had previously traveled to Colorado to get on a waiting list for cannabis for Anna, but her plants will reportedly not be ready until October. The family was planning to move, at least in part, to ensure Anna would have access to cannabis. Tragically for Anna and her family, the passage of the law was far too late to help her. Most estimates indicate it will be at least a year and a half…

HIGH TIMES at the Denver County Fair

When Colorado legalized it and hordes of people lined up to buy it on January 1st, Dana Cain, director of the Denver County Fair, knew that legal marijuana had to have a place at the popular event, now in it’s fourth year. “We gotta have a pot pavilion!” Cain explains, “we’re representing what Denver is all about!” And so this August 1-3, look for the official Pot Pavilion among other exhibitions on arts and crafts, farms and gardens, sports and history. But unfortunately, despite being open only to those 21 and over there won’t be any pot in the pot pavilion!…

Cannabis Spas: Hash Baths, THC Massages and More

Cucumber water, complimentary slippers, freshly warmed robes and cool, mint-scented eye towels — the spa industry is all about these nuanced details. In Denver, another treatment option has made its way onto the menu: cannabis. The marijuana-infused massage Cannabist editor Ricardo Baca recently wrote about at LoDo Massage is an example of how the recreational marijuana industry can find a foothold in the $14-billion-a-year spa industry. Cannabis in spas has yet to become a full-blown trend in the U.S., according to the International Spa Association, but you can expect that to start changing in Colorado and Washington. “I will forever…
