Colorado Group To Provide Free Medical Marijuana To Veterans

6

A new group in Colorado plans on providing cannabis to U.S. military vets as an alternative to using narcotics to treat physical or mental illness sustained during military service. The cost to vets? Nothing. Called Operation Grow4Vets, the group intends to give away free marijuana, cannabis-infused oils and tinctures, as well as marijuana plant growing equipment, to qualified veterans. “By providing veterans with free marijuana, related products, and other assistance we hope to help them reduce or eliminate the number and amount of prescription medications they are taking,” Roger Martin, executive director of OG4V, told The Huffington Post. “Thus, allowing…

Girl at center of fight to legalize cannabis oil dies at age 7

5

Lydia Schaeffer, the 7-year-old girl with a rare genetic disorder whose plight inspired lawmakers in Wisconsin to legalize a marijuana extract to treat her condition despite their opposition to medical marijuana, has died. Lydia’s mother, Sally Schaeffer, had been lobbying the state legislature to legalize the drug, an experimental extract from cannabis plants known as Charlotte’s Web, for use on children with seizure disorders. The lawmakers moved to pass the law in record time and Gov. Scott Walker (R) signed the bill into law in April. But Lydia, who died in her sleep on Mother’s Day, never got a chance…

THC, CBD And More: The Entourage Effect Of Whole-Plant Cannabis Medicine

4

For years now Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol  (THC) has been the most popular and widely researched cannabinoid in cannabis science. However, nowadays it seems like cannabidiol (CBD) has stolen the spotlight given its ability to provide therapeutic relief to children suffering from various epileptic disorders, while lacking the psychotropic effects (i.e. high) of THC. It’s even gotten to the point that state legislature are passing laws “CBD-only”  medical marijuana legislation. Given all of this, it is easy to see how CBD and THC can be viewed as being in competition. But the reality is that both compounds, along with as many as 66 other cannabinoids, play important…

Changes planned for Nevada’s medical pot law

3

Nevada’s medical marijuana industry is not yet off the ground. But already, one lawmaker is considering changes for the 2015 Legislature. State Sen. Tick Segerblom, D-Las Vegas, was the main force behind the 2013 medical marijuana push in the Legislature to set up Nevada’s system of dispensaries, grow houses, kitchens for edible products and testing labs. First, he would like the law changed in 2015 to allow more dispensaries statewide. Currently, the law allows for 66 dispensaries statewide and just 10 in the unincorporated area of Washoe County, including Reno and Sparks. The Reno City Council has already asked if…

Life Sentences for Marijuana and How You Can Help

1

Most of the public remains unaware that right here, right now, in these United States, we have prisoners serving life or de facto life sentences for nonviolent marijuana offenses.  For some, like 1986 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year Randy Lanier, and Chicago truck mechanic Craig Cesal, these were first offenses. Lanier, Cesal, and others like Paul Free, Larry Duke and George Martorano are part of an aging prison population who have been incarcerated for decades for victimless crimes involving a plant states are legalizing. A new Change.org petition, penned by Beth Curtis of LifeForPot.com, whose brother John Knock is one of these prisoners, offers an easy way the President cold…

Colorado: Lawmakers Approve Funding For Medical Marijuana Research

5

State lawmakers have approved legislation, Senate Bill 155, to fund observational and clinical research assessing the safety and therapeutic efficacy of cannabis. Democrat Gov. John Hickenlooper signed the bill into law. The measure establishes a subaccount of up to $10 million within the state’s medical marijuana program fund to be utilized specifically for the purpose of conducting state-sponsored cannabis research. The intent of this new research program is to “gather objective scientific research regarding the efficacy of administering marijuana and its component parts as part of medical treatment.” The law also establishes a ‘scientific advisory council,’ which may include expert participants from around…

Watering Tips And Techniques For Outdoor Marijuana Growers

4

Watering needs depend on your growing site’s location and the genetics of your crop. If you have a fairly humble-sized crop, then various hand-watering methods should suffice. Some marijuana growers haul water out to their site and then use watering pots or run hoses from a large container to their site. If you have been able to find a site that is fairly close to water, and you have a small number of plants, it may make the most sense to refill from the source and carry the water back and forth. This limits your liability since you’ll never be…

New York Senate Committee Passes Comprehensive Medical Marijuana Bill

new-york-marijuana

Yesterday, the New York State Senate Health Committee passed (S.4406-B/Savino) by a bipartisan vote of 9 – 8. This is the first time in years that the Senate has taken up the issue of medical marijuana. The bill, known as the Compassionate Care Act, would alleviate the suffering of thousands of seriously ill New Yorkers by allowing the use of marijuana to treat debilitating, life-threatening illnesses under a doctor’s supervision. The committee room was packed with patients from across the state, and the room erupted into applause when the Committee voted the bill in the affirmative. The bill now goes to…
