Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Why We Celebrate Weed On 4/20

This article was originally published on April 20, 2009, and has been reposted each year since. Warren Haynes, the Allman Brothers Band guitarist, routinely plays with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, now touring as The Dead. He’s just finished a Dead show in Washington, D.C. and gets a pop quiz from the Huffington Post. Where does 420 come from? He pauses and thinks, hands on his side. “I don’t know the real origin. I know myths and rumors,” he says. “I’m really confused about the first time I heard it. It was like a police code for smoking…

Allstar Blake Griffin Endorses Medical Marijuana Use In The NBA

In an interview with Rolling Stone yesterday, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers voiced his support of medical marijuana use to treat pain in the NBA.  Currently, the NBA has strict penalties for drug use, which typically lead to suspensions and fines. It was only in 2011 that the NBA stopped testing for marijuana use in the off-season, but now that marijuana is in the limelight, its place in the NBA, as a form of medical treatment for pain, has come into question. Griffin was asked: The NFL might let players use medical marijuana to treat pain. If you had a vote, would…

What Are The Active Ingredients In Medical Marijuana?

The medicinal and psychoactive effects that we associate with marijuana are caused by unique chemical structures called cannabinoids found in the actual plant. To date, there have been 86 cannabinoids identified in nature and others have been synthesized chemically. The major psychoactive ingredient in marijuana is delta-g-tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC (although other naming systems refer to it confusingly as delta-t-THC). Other cannabinoids, in addition to THC, have medicinal or psychoactive elements. Cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), cannabavarin (THCV), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), delta-8-THC, cannabicyclol (CBL), cannabitriol (CBT), and cannabielsoin are among the many different naturally-occurring cannabinoids. Most are known to…

50 Successful Marijuana Users Who Prove The Person Matters More Than The Plant

A version of this story was first published in 2013. These guys just blew pothead stereotypes up in smoke. Though marijuana opponents have long pointed suggesting that weed is tied to a lack of motivation, a sampling of successful people who have admitted using the drug suggests otherwise. Pot policy reform group Marijuana Policy Project has released a list of the top 50 most influential Americans who have used marijuana, and it’s a doozy. The list contains politicians, Supreme Court justices, entertainers, entrepreneurs and a certain leader of the free world who had a habit of “intercepting” joints as a teen in Hawaii….

Bill Gates Supports Legalized Marijuana in Washington

Marijuana legalization now has support in the form of America’s wealthiest citizen. In an interview with BuzzFeed this Tuesday, Microsoft chairman and philanthropist Bill Gates revealed that he voted in favor of the 2012 referendum that legalized marijuana in his home state of Washington. “It’s an experiment, and it’s probably good to have a couple states try it out to see before you make that national policy,” Gates said. The world’s richest man is impressed with the law’s implementation so far, which goes into effect later this year. “I think people are going about this trying to make sure it’s labeled well, trying to make…

Snoop Dogg And BReal Hot Box A Car And Talk About Marijuana And Music

I have hot boxed a car listening to Cypress Hill and/or Snoop Dogg more times than I can count. When I first got my license in the mid-1990′s, one of the first things I did was make a CD with Cypress Hill and Snoop Dogg songs, drove to the outskirts of town, and hot boxed my car with my closest friends. Every road trip I have ever taken with Jay Smoker included a savage hot box session and some Snoop Dogg and BReal. Below is a video from BReal.TV in which BReal and Snoop Dogg hot box a car and talk…
